Durham, M.G. & Kellner, D. 2006, Media and cultural studies: keyworks
A hard reading book that brings together a range of core texts into one volume, this acclaimed anthology offers the definitive resource in culture, media, and communication.
One particular section that drew my attention was the Global spread of capitalist markets. It hits on the point of one damaging aspect of capitalisation that it in fact can damage national identities and traits but generalising the nation and local market places.
In terms of design this means that smaller often more creative brands and agencies would get swallowed up or forced out of business by larger global corporations, thus stopping local production and inviting in often inferior quality for cheaper cost. This removes many creative outlets for smaller creatives.
